In October 2015, the Iowa Department of Human Services (DHS) was awarded the Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinics (CCBHC) Planning Grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). The aim of this one year planning grant is to support states to certify clinics as certified community behavioral health clinics (CCBHCs), establish prospective payment systems for Medicaid reimbursable services, and prepare an application to participate in a two year demonstration program. CCBHCs are expected to improve behavioral health through high-quality, coordinated, community-based mental health and substance use disorder services built upon evidence-based practices. The Consortium helps provide quarterly and annual progress reports that evaluate the ability of the Iowa DHS to meet CCBHC goals and objectives and report on performance and data quality measures required for the demonstration grant phase. The Consortium also provides technical assistance to DHS and partner staff.
